Attached is the link that you will need to use to register to volunteer at the Birchleggings Mosquito Brook Aid Station for the Birkie on Saturday 2/26/2022 if you are able to help out.  Please invite (and register) any family members or friends of yours who are able to help.  Erik Hanson is a former Rotarian and he will be the one who is coordinating this station.  

Aid station volunteers will be responsible for providing some snacks and beverages for the Birkie skiers as they come through during the race (there is a description of the volunteer duties at the aid station in this link)

Lucy Malcolm

Bio:

Kimberly Kayler, CPSM is president of AOE (Advancing Organizational Excellence). With a client listing of both industry associations and privately-held companies, AOE provides consulting and association management services ranging from outsourced HR and financial services, publications, electronic media and website development, certification, marketing, social media, public relations and crisis communications, strategic planning, event/meeting planning and execution, as well as strategic and operational planning.

Recently selected as one of the most influential people in the concrete construction industry by Concrete Construction magazine, Kimberly is certified by the National Transportation Safety Board in crisis communications and is a frequent speaker and business trainer on the topic. Trained by the University of Michigan on Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), she also frequently speaks and trains members of the construction industry on DEI concepts and strategy.

A frequent public speaker, she has authored more than 2,000 articles and is the co-author of Leading with Marketing, a handbook for marketing and business development professionals. Kayler was named mentor of the year by the University of Arizona in spring 2021 and she was recently appointed to the Alumni Board of Directors for the University as well as the School of Journalism Advisory Council.

From 2009-2019, Kimberly served as an Adjunct Professor in the Integrated Marketing Communications Department at Columbus State Community College, Columbus, OH. During that time, in addition to teaching, she also developed curriculum.  She received her BA in journalism/English from The University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. She earned her MS in organization and management with an emphasis in leadership from Capella University.

Eli is an outgoing Rotary student from Hayward Wisconsin.  He will be going to Denmark for the 2022-2023 School year.  He is required to give a Family presentation to a Rotary club in the city he will be staying in which is yet to be assigned.  He will give us this presentation on zoom as a practice for his presentation in Denmark.

Rotary Awards Paul Harris Fellow Designation to Linda Graham

The Rotary Club of Hayward Area, a service organization composed of a broad cross-section of our local community, has chosen to give a non-member one of their highest honors: the Paul Harris Fellow distinction.

On Wednesday, April 20, Rotarians gathered to recognize Linda Graham, owner of Beehive Botanicals and long-time community volunteer, the award. Graham was at the meeting speaking about her role with the People’s Free Store, which operates at 8558 City Road K in Hayward.

The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition is the Rotary Foundation’s way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. The recognition is named after Rotary’s founder, the late Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary with three associates in 1905.

Rotary Club of Hayward Area Board President Edward Haugen noted that Graham joins a remarkable company of people throughout the world, all recognized for their commitment to Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self” to benefit local and international communities. 

The Paul Harris Fellow designation was also presented to Rotary member Lucy Malcolm, president-elect of the club. 

Club member Don Semler introduced Graham and noted that “she’s done more for this community than anyone else I can think of as she truly cares about giving back to our area and is always willing to help in any way she can.” Among her contributions, Semler noted her role on the Northwoods Humane Society Board, the Humane Society Thrift Store, the LCO Boys and Girls Club Board, the LCO Boys and Girls Club Field of Honor, the Hayward Food Shelf, Hayward Community Schools, Hayward Foundation for Educational Enrichment, the First Lutheran Church, the Elizabeth House, Salvation Army, Sawyer County/LOCO Economic Development Corporation Board, and much more.

Graham said she is honored by being named a Paul Harris Fellow.

“I come from a family that believes in giving back and I am honored by this recognition,” she said.   

The People’s Free Store is yet another example of Graham’s community involvement. Born out of an idea during the pandemic, the store has a strong partnership with the Humane Society’s thrift store.  Graham noted that though space is limited at the Free Store location, they regularly post information about free furniture and other items using social media, as well as when perishable food is available. Approximately 30-55 people visit the Free Store each day. Those interested in learning more about the People’s Free Store should call 715-699-2465.

The Rotary Club of Hayward Area meets two times per month as well as participates in a variety of local community events as volunteers.  Those interested in members should contact Haugen at 715-699-4949.

 Nicole Nathan, owner of Hayward Fitness Fanatics and Hayward Dance Experience.  She will speakon health and wellness andthe state of fitness in our community.

Nicole's dance journey started right here in the Hayward Community. Her classically trained aunt who also owns a successful dance school in Minnesota encouraged Nicole to take dance lessons at an early age and never stopped encouraging her to grow and learn. Throughout her youth she has taken ballet, modern, pointe, ballroom and hip hop lessons; Nicole spent many summers at Just For Kix dance camps and even organized and managed the Hayward High School's one and only dance team. Most recently, Nicole received her Dance Teacher Certification from Dance Teacher University. Being a positive influence on young people and sharing her deep love of dance brought Nicole into the role of teaching and eventual studio ownership - something she believes is one of the greatest God-given gifts in her life!

Holding Bachelor’s Degrees in Health Promotion and Physical Education from the University of Saint Thomas and certified as a personal trainer by the American College of Sports Medicine; Nicole has gained experience and knowledge in the areas of individualized personal training, health/fitness counseling and special population needs. She began her yoga training at CorePower Yoga and later graduated from the Devanadi School of Yoga & Wellness Teacher Training Program, she absolutely loves what yoga has given her both personally & professionally and is passionate about making yoga accessible & possible for everyone! Nicole has also studied Dance throughout all of her life; enjoying the counsel of many teachers and mentors along the way. Sharing Dance to people of all ages has been her life's dream! Owning Hayward Fitness Fanatics & Dance Experience, by far, has been Nicole's most gratifying achievement! Being able offer her skills and passion for life to the community she adores is the greatest gift of all!
